Austal Limited have announced the completion of their 79.8m RoPax Catamaran, the most recent iteration of its enduring Auto Express ferry range, to French Polynesian operator and repeat customer SNC Aremiti Ferry. This ground breaking ferry is fitted with Teignbridge Propellers, Shaftlines and rudders.
Designed by the Austal team in Western Australia, and built in the new Philippines shipyard, the bespoke platform’s distinctive hull and propulsion package offers operators in the medium to high-speed ferry market an exciting new solution to reduce their running and maintenance costs.
The Aremiti Ferry 2 has been fitted with a Teignbridge quad shaft line and rudder configuration. Propulsion is provided by four of Teignbridge’s highly efficient C-Foil propellers. This propeller design has been shown to provide a 10% improvement in thrust and a 12% improvement in efficiency over a standard propeller design, providing the vessel operator with the associated improvement in vessel performance and fuel economy.
“Aremiti Ferry 2 achieved a full-load speed of over 21 knots.
While operating at 18 knots, the fuel consumption of Aremiti Ferry 2 is only 850 litres per hour; which equates to less than one-litre of diesel per passenger over a one hour journey.
On sea trials the vessel comfortably achieved its contracted service speed and this will provide Aremiti with the long term benefits of lower fuel consumption and the possibility of extending the TBO of the MTU main engines beyond the published TBO of 30,000 hours.”
Teignbridge are proud to be associated with the success of the Aremiti’s performance and outstanding fuel economy.
